Aston Villa have ended their interest in Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland, according to a report by Sky Sports News.
They report that the Potters will not lower their £25 million asking price for the England international, despite the fact he wants to leave the club this summer.
The report says that Butland wants a summer departure in order to keep his international hopes alive – he was the only member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Nations League who plies his trade in the Championship.
But with a large chunk of Villa’s transfer budget apparently set to go on Tyrone Mings, Dean Smith is prepared to focus on other, cheaper goalkeeping targets.

On Twitter, it was hard to find a Villa fan who was that bothered about not paying such a huge fee for Butland – many Villans are keen to suggest cheaper alternatives.
Burnley’s Tom Heaton and Southampton’s Fraser Forster were both suggested, with another supporter feeling that current incumbent Jed Steer is good enough to hold onto the gloves.
The Villa faithful are buzzing for next season now and walking away from Butland because the figures involved are too high is a welcome change of tack for the club…
