Aston Villa progressed to the third round of the Carabao Cup after beating League One opposition Burton Albion on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter praised forward Ollie Watkins for his debut performance.
Dean Smith’s side recorded a 3-1 away win in the cup tie, despite the fact underdogs Burton were ahead in the second minute courtesy of Colin Daniel’s goal.
Premier League side Villa managed to recover and it was summer signing Watkins who equalised before half-time, as he netted a close-range finish in the six-year box on his competitive debut for his new club.
Jack Grealish prevented a penalty shootout with a brilliant volley in the 88th minute to give the Midlands giants the lead, while Keinan Davis also got himself on the scoresheet in stoppage time with a composed left-footed finish.

A selection of Villa supporters on social media were hailing their new signing for his contribution on his debut.
Watkins scored a trademark poacher’s goal after getting on the end of Neil Taylor’s cross and it’s an example of what made him so effective last season in the Championship with Brentford.
The 24-year-old striker finished the campaign with 26 goals across all competitions and is now getting the chance to make his top-flight debut with Villa.
He’s an intelligent centre-forward that previewed against the Burton the kind of movement in his game and an early goal should boost his confidence.
