Aston Villa fans react to Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa winning Fair Play award

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds United have been awarded the FIFA Fair Play Award following their controversial meeting last season.

Bielsa was lauded by many in football after instructing his players to allow Villa to score a goal uncontested when they met at Elland Road.

Leeds had gone in front after playing on when Jonathan Kodjia had gone down injured. Villa were angered as they had put the ball out for a Whites injury in the minutes before, and Tyler Roberts slowed down while on the ball as though he was about to put the ball out. He then however, played the ball down the line to Klich.

There were then some incredible scenes as Bielsa told his players to allow Villa to immediately equalise. And that moment has been recognised by FIFA.

Football’s governing body awarded Bielsa and the current Championship leaders with the Fair Play Award this week. And it has prompted an interesting reaction from the Villa fans on social media.

Villa fans divided

Some, unsurprisingly, believe that Leeds do not deserve the award. The Spygate saga from earlier in the season led many to slam the Whites and Bielsa.

On the other hand, there have actually been a number of Villa supporters who have praised Bielsa and suggested that he does deserve the honour.
