Aston Villa fans react to Hutton’s wonder goal in Second City derby victory

Yesterday’s Second City derby between Aston Villa and Birmingham City was one of the best in recent memory.

It has been a while since both sides came into the match on the up but Garry Monk’s side travelled to Villa Park full of confidence on the back of a strong recent run and that contributed to a thrilling encounter.

Villa fell behind in the first half but roared back to grab the bragging rights with a 4-2 victory that Dean Smith will hope can kickstart their promotion push.

Jonathan Kodjia, Jack Grealish and Tammy Abraham put Villa in control but Alan Hutton was the unlikely hero with his strike which sealed the victory.

With just under 15 minutes remaining and Birmingham threatening to pull the match back to 3-3, Hutton picked the ball up inside his own half, just outside the centre circle.

The situation looked innocuous enough but the Scotsman set off on a mazy run and Monk will be disappointed that not one of the defenders Hutton passed on the way got a foot in to stop his passage to goal.

Hutton slotted home on his weaker left foot to make the points safe with a stunning individual strike and naturally, Aston Villa fans were loving it…
