Aston Villa are through to the next round of the EFL Cup following a 3-1 win against fellow Premier League side Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
With both teams making changes it was always an unpredictable affair but Aston Villa had more quality throughout their team and thoroughly deserved to come away with the win.
There were plenty of performances for Aston Villa fans to appreciate. Keinan Davis was a beast in attack whilst Jota and Trezeguet both had impressive performances on the flanks.
But it was Conor Hourihane who might have stolen the show. He bagged the second goal of the game and continued his excellent form in the competition so far this season.
The Irishman scored twice in the previous round against Crewe Alexandra and plenty of Aston Villa fans are now wondering how Dean Smith can squeeze the 28-year-old into his regular Aston Villa starting XI.
It would mean either playing him in a defensive midfield role, or dropping one of Jack Grealish or John McGinn. None of those scenarios seem likely but it is a definite shame for Hourihane to be left out considering his excellent form in the EFL Cup.
