A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react to a report from The Athletic concerning Tom Heaton’s future at Villa Park.
Heaton has not made an appearance for Dean Smith’s men since last January, largely due to a long-term injury. The positive news is he has been on the bench throughout the last few months.

The Athletic reports that he is out of contract in the summer. And while the Villans would apparently like him to stay, Heaton is set to consider his options.
According to The Athletic, the 34-year-old wants to be a number one again. And obviously, that is currently unlikely to happen with Emi Martinez proving to be an outstanding signing.

So the smart money would perhaps be on Heaton – who earns £42,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – moving on this summer. And it appears that the large majority of Villa supporters have suggested that they would not blame the goalkeeper for leaving.
Several have insisted that they were over the moon when he arrived. However, they have no problem with Martinez being the undisputed number one.
And for that reason, they would also have no problem with Heaton leaving. Many have claimed that he is too good to be a backup option, particularly when he is reaching the latter stages of his career.
