A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports from over the weekend claiming that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is a top target as they search for their next manager.

The Villans are continuing to be linked with a host of names following the announcement on Sunday that Dean Smith had been sacked.

It comes after Villa had lost their previous five games in the Premier League. Those results have left the club within touching distance of the bottom three heading into the international break.

The Telegraph reported that Gerrard was high up on their wishlist. The likes of Ralph Hasenhuttl and Thomas Frank are also on the club’s radar.

Gerrard has enjoyed a fantastic start to life as a manager. He led the Gers to the league title last season after taking over when the club were some way behind Celtic.

In fact, Rangers finished third in the season before his arrival at Ibrox, 12 points off the summit.

Within three years, the Light Blues had won the title by 25 points. They had also gone unbeaten throughout the domestic campaign.

Rangers have also been a regular fixture in the Europa League during his tenure.

There are some Villa fans who are not completely convinced about Gerrard. Rightly or wrongly, there is a sense that he still has plenty to prove having worked with Rangers and nowhere else.

Having said that, the large majority of Villa supporters on social media appear to be in favour of appointing the Englishman.

They admire the passion that his sides play with. And they feel that he would be exactly what the club now needs.
