Aston Villa fans react on Twitter to performance of Emi Martinez

Aston Villa defeated Sheffield United 1-0 to kick off their Premier League campaign with a victory at Villa Park, with Emi Martinez the hero of the hour.

The goalkeeper checked in from Arsenal last week and his penalty save with the score goalless proved the catalyst for a Villa win.

Ezri Konsa scored the only goal of the game but it could have been so different had John Lundstram had scored from the penalty spot prior to half-time.

Martinez won the FA Cup with Arsenal last season but would have spent the 2020/21 campaign playing second fiddle behind Bernd Leno.

With that in mind, he jumped at the chance to join Aston Villa in a deal worth £20 million, signing a four-year deal at Villa Park.

His debut couldn’t have really gone much better and following his showing supporters were quick to rave about him on Twitter.

Martinez, 28 has plenty of years left ahead of him and on the face of things, he already looks like a shrewd piece of business by the Villans.

Here is a selection of Tweets from Villa fans on the performance of Emi Martinez during last night’s win over Sheffield United.
