Aston Villa fans react on Twitter as report claims Ollie Watkins valuation

Aston Villa are hoping to sign Ollie Watkins from Brentford, despite the Bees wanting £28 million for their prolific forward.

According to The Telegraph, the Villans want to add Watkins and Callum Wilson to their ranks; with Nottingham Forest star Matty Cash becoming the club’s first summer recruit earlier today.

It represents a change in strategy for Villa who attacked the European market during last summer following promotion to the Premier League.

It would seem that Dean Smith is keen to add young, British talent to his ranks this time around as he aims to push Villa on this season.

Watkins, 24, enjoyed a season to remember for the Bees during 2019/20; scoring 26 times in all competitions and registering three assists.

He was transformed into a centre-forward by boss Thomas Frank last season, having previously spent the majority of his time out on the flank.

Following news that Villa are in the hunt to sign the talisman, supporters have been reacting to the news on Twitter.

Many feel that Smith should be trusted in the market and if it takes £28 million then so be it.

Others are more cautious and would have to wait and see whether or not he’d prove to be worth that money.

Largely, fans are in agreement that he’d be a great signing, however, and here is a selection of Tweets from the Villa faithful.
