A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from the Daily Star this week suggesting that Leicester City could make a move for Matt Targett this summer.
The Foxes are searching for a replacement for Ben Chilwell after selling the left-back to Chelsea for £50 million in the last few days.
And the Daily Star has suggested that one of the players on Brendan Rodgers’s wishlist is Targett, who only joined the Villans last summer.
The Star notes that Villa may have to offer the 24-year-old an improvement on his £45,000-a-week contract amid interest from the Foxes.
But it appears that the prospect of losing Targett has divided a number of Villa fans on social media.
Some have insisted that they would not mind seeing Targett leave. They have not been overly impressed by what they have seen from the former Southampton man during his first year with Dean Smith’s side.
Meanwhile, others have suggested that they would only be willing to see him leave if he is replaced with an exciting target. Jamal Lewis and Rico Henry are names that have been mentioned by the supporters.
But there are also some fans who want Targett to stay. He showed glimpses of his quality throughout the campaign. And they would be disappointed if the Villans decided to make a quick profit should Leicester come calling.
Here is how some of the supporters have reacted to the reports…
If we get offered 20 + million for Targett, snap their hands off and go get Jamal Lewis. #AVFC

I’m amazed at how many want to get rid – id keep him 100%, we should be trying to build something not selling at first opportunity for minor profit. There is definitely a good player there and he will be better for full season playing in prem !!

I personally want to keep targett unless we are thinking about upgrading him

Good player if he fancies it but a bit soft at times. We’d be mad to sell him if there’s no immediate replacement, with that replacement having to be better. Could do with a bit more pace in that position.

If there’s a decent profit in it I wouldn’t say no. Targett is ok, but rarely much better than that in my humble. Tell em 25m 😆

Send him in a taxi, before they change there mind…. Rico Henry anyone?

Really disappointing summer window so far. I’d be very disappointed if Targett leaves, underrated when you look at his contribution and will improve. Grealish simply can’t leave unless his contribution is replaced and that’ll take 2-3 minimum, just to stand still #AVFC

If we can make a profit on Targett, we should … #avfc Nice enough guy, good going forward but slow and can’t defend. Wasn’t the right buy & we should take a good offer if there is one. He’s injured a fair bit too.
