Newcastle United and Aston Villa have been offered the chance to sign Jeff Hendrick, according to reports by Chronicle Live.
The Republic of Ireland international is a free agent having left Burnley after failing to agree on fresh terms.
Hendrick spent four years at Turf Moor having signed from Derby County in 2016. He made 139 appearances, scoring 10 goals and registering seven assists.
Aston Villa are on the lookout for some new additions having secured their Premier League status for next season.
The Villans survived on the last day of the campaign with a 1-1 draw at West Ham and Dean Smith will hope to be better next season.
Hendrick has played 54 times for the Republic of Ireland and probably won’t be short of potential suitors before the new season starts.
Villa fans have been reacting to news of their interest on Twitter and some feel it would be a decent signing.
Naturally, bigger names will be sought among the fanbase, although many believe Hendrick is steady enough to warrant looking at.
Here is a selection of Tweets from the Villa faithful as the club looks to be interested in the international player.
Not only does he provide experience and midfeild cover, but he also doesn't take anything from our budget. 100% a deal worth doing

Good business if deano wants him in his system, anyone who's opposed is daft especially with increased sub counts at the moment.

Look at it this way; is he an upgrade on Lansbury? Yes. Much better than Lansbury. So he’d be a free signing that would add more quality to squad depth. Depends how much he wants paying and for how long. He’d be a decent squad addition for free.

Good box to box player, workhorse and he’s got a goal in him! Would be perfect on a free

Why not, squad player that offers bags of experience and cost nothing out of the budget, no brainer

I don't see anything wrong with this? Would be a good addition

An upgrade to Lansbury as a squad player who would definitely get some game time. On a free a no-brainier really
