Aston Villa fans react as Wesley scores against Arsenal

Wesley Moraes scored his second goal of the season but Aston Villa lost 3-2 at Arsenal. One of the positives of yesterday’s performance was Wesley’s goal as Aston Villa crashed to defeat against 10-man Arsenal.

John McGinn opened the scoring for Aston Villa, netting his second goal in North London this season. Then, Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off to leave Dean Smith’s men in a promising position.

Nicolas Pepe equalised for Arsenal but Wesley immediately replied. Jack Grealish went on a marauding run and his cross was poked home by Wesley, who nipped in front of David Luiz to get to the ball first.

The Brazilian thought he might have netted the winner at The Emirates Stadium but it wasn’t to be. Instead, late goals from Calum Chambers and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turned the game on its head.

Wesley’s goal will be a much-needed confidence boost, though. The 22-year-old has been struggling to adapt to life in England and some games have passed him by. But the towering striker could kick on now. Here are some tweets reacting to his goal and performance.
