Jed Steer might have to start for Aston Villa after the international break after Tom Heaton withdrew from England duty.
Heaton has dropped out of the England squad with an injury. While there are social media whispers that the injury is not serious, there is no official word on this yet.
Dean Henderson has replaced Heaton in the England squad. The Sheffield United goalkeeper, 22, will compete with Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope for the goalkeeper jersey.
But this could potentially be a blow for the Villans. Heaton has been a key player for Dean Smith’s side since his summer move from Burnley. In his absence, Steer might get the nod.
Steer ended last season as Villa’s number one goalkeeper, leading the club to glory via the play-offs. But the 27-year-old’s Premier League hopes were dashed when Heaton arrived.
Lovre Kalinic and Orjan Nyland are also in contention if Heaton is ruled out. But Steer is surely next in line. He will have to get himself ready in case Heaton’s injury is serious.
Here are some Villa fans reacting to news that Heaton could be out.
