Aston Villa fans react as Thierry Henry extends winless run to five games

It hasn’t been a great start for Thierry Henry at AS Monaco.

The legendary former Premier League striker has now gone five games without overseeing a victory with the French outfit.

His side were battered 4-0 by Belgian side Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The result meant that Monaco are already out of the competition, with Europa League qualification now the only thing to play for.

Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are looking good for the top two spots, with both on nine points from four games.

It was Henry’s third defeat since taking over last month, and the ex-Arsenal man has clearly been unable to inspire his players thus far. His other two results were only draws.

A dodged bullet for Aston Villa?

Of course, there’s no telling how Henry might have fared managing in the Championship with Aston Villa, but at the moment it looks like the Midlands club made the right choice hiring Dean Smith.

The Frenchman was strongly linked with the Villa vacancy following the departure of Steve Bruce.

The Mirror reported he was offered the job, and many bookmakers installed him as the favourite to take over.

But he plumped for Monaco after Leonardo Jardim left, which is the club he began his playing career at.

It’s two wins and two defeats for Smith so far at Villa, and he appears to be faring much better than Henry currently is.

Encouragingly for the Villa faithful, Smith has also already implemented a much more attractive brand of football than that of his predecessor Bruce.

Villa fans react

It’s been a tough start for Henry, and some Villa fans are glad they missed out on the former Sky Sports pundit:
