Scott Hogan was left on the Sheffield United bench by Chris Wilder during the Steel City derby on Monday night – and Aston Villa fans are not impressed on Twitter.
Hogan, 26, joined Sheffield United on loan from Villa in the January transfer window. He has since managed just one appearance for Wilder’s side, providing an assist in a 4-0 win over Reading.
But Wilder left him on the bench as the Blades drew 0-0 with Sheffield Wednesday. Even with the promotion chasers hunting for a winner, Wilder overlooked Ireland international Hogan.
Instead, United started with captain Billy Sharp and Gary Madine up front. In the 68th minute, Wilder chose to bring on David McGoldrick ahead of Hogan from the bench to replace Madine.
It has been a difficult couple of seasons for the ex-Brentford striker. Signed by Villa in January 2017 from The Bees for £12million (BBC Sport), Hogan has since managed just 10 goals in 61 games.
Injuries have played their part, but he remains a world apart from the striker that scored 21 times in 36 league and cup outings. He has a contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2021.
Villa fans reacted to seeing Hogan left on the bench throughout Monday night’s Championship clash, and they were not happy. Many questioned why he was not given a chance, while others are frustrated with Hogan himself.
Something ain't right with that fella, can't get a game for us but isn't worrying they're strikers either.

Good to see Scott Hogan back to what he does best, watching from the bench.
