Former Aston Villa and Manchester City defender Micah Richards has announced his retirement from football, as reported by the BBC.
Richards won the Premier League with City in 2012, before moving to Villa in 2015 and last played for them in 2016.
He said: “From when I was a young kid I dreamed that I would win the Premier League and play for England and I am very proud I achieved both.
“My time at Aston Villa was very frustrating because I wanted to play but my knee would swell up so I could not even train. But it was still an honour to play for them, and I am just sorry I could not do more for them on the pitch.”

Richards hasn’t played for Villa in just under three years and many of their supporters are still furious at him for hardly playing for the club and still taking his wages.
He isn’t the most popular player among the Villans’ fanbase and they weren’t exactly queuing up to with the defender well in his retirement.
One of the best things Villa have done this summer is cut the likes of Richards and Ross McCormack loose, because they were draining the club’s finances and dragging down morale.
