Scotland recovered from their 4-0 defeat against Russia by pelting six goals past a helpless San Marino side yesterday.
Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn netted a first half hat trick for Steve Clarke’s side as some much-needed smiles were put on faces.
Playing against the minnows is a hiding to nothing, in truth; a comfortable win is the least that is expected and anything less is treated as an unacceptable struggle.
But McGinn allayed any Scottish fears by taking the game by the scruff of the neck early on, continuing his impressive goalscoring form at club level.

He is already so popular with the Villa supporters and they loved seeing him continue to impress on international duty.
Dean Smith’s side need him to keep hitting the net to take the pressure off the front players to net hatfuls of goals, although Wesley’s double last time out does show signs of promise.
Limited as the opposition may have been, scoring a hat-trick is always a welcome bonus for a player and it’s fair to say that the Villans on Twitter were very pleased for their midfielder.
