Aston Villa go into the Championship play-offs, arguably, as favourites despite their league position. Dean Smith’s side are on fire at the minute, even after their winning streak ended at Leeds this weekend gone.

One man who has been absolutely key to that success is summer signing John McGinn.

Aston Villa beat Celtic to bring in McGinn from Hibernian for a fee in the region of £2.75 million. The central midfielder has gone on to play a pivotal role in Aston Villa’s season.

His stats tell the story of his brilliant campaign. McGinn has played 40 of Aston Villa’s 45 games in the Championship, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists.

His control of games has been sensational at times and Aston Villa fans are already huge fans of the 24-year-old Scotland international.

Clearly so, as they have also voted him the club’s player of the year. At the Aston Villa award presentation last night. It was not his only award of the night either. McGinn was also voted the player of the season by his Aston Villa team-mates.

His double award swoop was undoubtedly warranted and the Aston Villa fans, including some ex-players, were quick to congratulate him. Hopefully, he can continue his form into the play-offs.
