PSV Eindhoven midfielder Gaston Pereiro said his agent is talking to Aston Villa about a January move on radio station Sport 890.
The 24-year-old Uruguay international said that his club have come to an agreement with MLS franchise Cincinnati, but he would prefer to stay in Europe.
He said his agent is working on an offer from Villa, as Dean Smith embarks on further reinforcements this month to boost his squad’s chances of beating the drop.
Pereiro said: “PSV told me that they have already come to an agreement with Cincinnati. I told my representative that if there is a chance to stay in Europe I prefer that. He is working on an offer from Aston Villa.”

Pereiro had a decent 2018/19, scoring 11 goals across all competitions (Transfermarkt) but has played just 345 minutes for PSV this term.
Many Villa fans on Twitter had not heard of the midfielder before, and some questioned his suitability to come in and hit the ground running considering he has been out of the fold at PSV.
But there was some excitement about the prospect of signing a 24-year-old international playmaker with a good record in previous seasons and adding him to a squad which relies too much on Jack Grealish for creativity.
