Mitchell Clark has agreed to join Leicester City on a three-year deal following his release by Aston Villa earlier this summer – and Villa fans reckon their club has made a mistake.
Leicester confirmed on their official website that the 20-year-old Wales youth international had agreed a deal that sees him join Brendan Rodgers’ side until the summer of 2022. He spent last season on loan at Port Vale.
While with the Staffordshire-based club, the Villa academy product clocked up 45 appearances in all competitions for Vale. His most impressive attribute was his versatility, playing left-back, right-back, right wing and left wing.
Naturally a right-back, Clark is able to play in a multitude of positions and his hard-working nature makes him a talent with plenty of promise. It comes as a surprise, then, that Villa opted not to keep Clark earlier this summer.
Leicester do have options on the right side of defence, but Danny Simpson has left the club following the end of his contract. Villa brought in Frederic Guilbert in January, with the play linking up with the squad this summer.
Aston Villa fans reacted to the news that Clark had joined Leicester following his release earlier this summer, and many believe the move to offload Clark was a baffling decision that could come back to haunt Dean Smith’s side.
