Frederic Guilbert produced a stunning performance to help Aston Villa to a clean sheet last night.
Aston Villa beat Newcastle United 2-0 last night to pull away from the drop zone. Conor Hourihane’s free-kick opened the scoring, shortly before Anwar El Ghazi’s close-range effort doubled the lead.
This is how the game ended as Aston Villa’s defence stood firm. All of the back four were impressive, as well as goalkeeper Tom Heaton. It was a joint effort and Guilbert received a lot of praise for his individual contribution to the shut-out.
Guilbert shackles Saint-Maximin

Guilbert had the toughest task on paper: dealing with lively Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin. But the Frenchman took this into his stride and limited Saint-Maximin’s influence.
He was not beaten easily and he produced a couple of perfectly timed slide tackles to dent Saint-Maximin’s confidence. It was a solid all-round performance from the 24-year-old right-back.
Aston Villa fans have enjoyed watching Guilbert this season. Once again, they flocked to Twitter to show their appreciation for the summer arrival. Here are some of the best tweets.
