Aston Villa fans react as club terminate Orjan Nyland’s contract
Aston Villa have confirmed that they’ve terminated the contract of goalkeeper Orjan Nyland – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are surprised by the news.
The Midlands giants have announced on their official website on Monday night that the 30-year-old has departed after they agreed a mutual termination of his contract.
Nyland had entered the final year of his deal at Villa Park, but is now a free agent following his departure and will be available for clubs to snap up.
The Norway international played in a Carabao Cup second round tie against Burton Albion this season, but asides from that hasn’t featured in a matchday squad and had slipped down the pecking goalkeeper order.
Villa have a new number one in Emiliano Martinez, whose signing from Arsenal looks inspired and it looks like he could be the long-term solution in that position for Dean Smith’s side.

Nyland played 15 times across all competitions last season, but there are several options in net at the club and he was perhaps fortunate that Tom Heaton is suffering with a long-term injury problem.
The 30-year-old departs after two years with the club and he will be remember for his important role in them reaching the Carabao Cup final last season, which they eventually lost 2-1 to Manchester City.
A selection of Villa supporters on social media are somewhat surprised by the shot-stopper’s departure, but his exit helps trim down the squad and the manager still has options in goal.
Here are some Villa fans discussing Nyland:
Jeez I’m a little surprised by this. All the best @OrjanHNyland1 💜💙 https://t.co/grHtYd73lq

Certainly didn’t see that coming.
This will go down as a strange one, especially after his heroics in the Carabao Cup last season which Orjan, unfortunately, couldn’t replicate in the Prem.
Top class saving, albeit dodgy and mistake-prone.
Best of luck, Orjan Nyland! https://t.co/G6KIyBBTg6

How have we got rid of Nyland before Lansbury and Kalinic https://t.co/76WgtZcr63

Would’ve though Kalinic would be out first? #avfc https://t.co/FfRawykkPq

All the best to him. Still has a lot to learn and fortunately for us we have much better keepers in Martinez, Heaton and Steer. #AVFC https://t.co/zQPjT5McLE
