Aston Villa have reportedly joined Leeds United and Sheffield United in the race to sign Reading midfielder John Swift this summer – and Villa supporters have reacted on Twitter, with many of the belief he would be a good signing.
Swift, 25, has been in excellent form once again for Reading. Renowned for his long-range strikes and set-piece ability, the 13-time England Under-21 international could leave Reading after four years at the Madjeski Stadium.
The Reading Chronicle have claimed that Aston Villa could join the race to sign the former Chelsea youth player as a low-cost replacement for Jack Grealish. He has less than two years remaining on his Reading contract.
The same outlet had previously claimed that both Leeds and Sheffield United were keen, while Berkshire Live reported that Sheffield United were closing in on a move for Swift – in a deal worth an initial £3.5million.
It comes as little surprise with Swift having a hand in 16 goals during his 41 Championship appearances in a Reading side that eventually finished in 14th. He scored six, and laid on 10 assists for the Royals.
Aston Villa supporters reacted on Twitter to the reported news that their club have joined Leeds and Chris Wilder’s side in pursuit of the goalscoring midfielder – and many feel he would be a good addition for Dean Smith’s team.
From what I have seen of him he is class, I would describe him as a younger quicker hourihane, he has class free kicks and his delivery into the box seems very good, £3.5mil is a steal IMO

We need strength and depth, with the big six agreeing to 5 subs an premier League bowing down to these poor players playing to many games. We need quality and potentional like swift, better than Nakamba, Lansbury, puts his foot in works hard and keeps the ball moving quickly

3.5M is a bargain price for a player these days, but in fairness I know little of him other than the usual Youtube footage. He looks skilful and comfortable on the ball and who knows he could be another McGinn. Is he worth the gamble ? not my call so I will see what happens.

This would be a very good signing. More like this rather than unknowns from the Belgium or Turkish leagues.

Swift is a good young player with upside. 5 subs next season, so we’ll need some players. If Under 10mil, gotta do it.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind it. Could be a masterclass signing if we’re paying little as possible for him. Especially after what happened last year
