Aston Villa and Sheffield United have reportedly made enquiries to sign Real Mallorca striker Ante Budimir this summer after a stunning 2019-20 campaign in the top tier of Spanish football – and Villa fans have responded on Twitter.
Budimir, 29, had been somewhat of a journeyman until he joined Mallorca on loan in January 2019 before completing a permanent move. He has since scored 19 goals in 57 games – 13 of which came in last season’s La Liga despite relegation.
Now, Spanish newspaper Marca have claimed that both Aston Villa and Sheffield United have made enquiries to sign Budimir – a player that was called-up by Croatia last term as he regularly scored in La Liga.
They have been told to spend £13.5million to sign Budimir, a figure which has put Villarreal off. But Villa and Sheffield United remain interested in Budimir despite being quoted the eight-figure fee, with Villa set to offload Mbwana Samatta.
The Villans also boast Wesley as he continues his comeback from a long-term knee injury and new signing Wesley. Borja Baston only joined the club on a six-month deal in January, and has since joined Spanish outfit Leganes.
Villa supporters have responded on Twitter to the reported news that they could raid relegated Spanish side Mallorca for Budimir, and some believe he would be a good addition to add depth to Dean Smith’s side.
Would be a good depth signing. Having 3 youngsters all at a single position doesn't make much sense does it. Would hurt potential

Pros – 5th highest scorer in La Liga (if you take out pens)
Mallorca created 2nd least chances
Good at finishing, in the air, movement
Cons – slow, passing isn’t great, he’s 29…
Upgrade on Samatta but €15m is bad value

Buying a quality second striker is much harder than buying a quality first choice striker. What quality player wants to sit on the bench?

Top flight experience between Italy and Spain, he has scored 18 goals over 68 games. Granted he bounces between teams quite often and likely doesn't get much time to mesh. If he came super cheap, was willing to be a sub for the most part and wants to train hard, let him come.
