Aston Villa are reportedly looking to sign Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle after his wonderful form on loan at West Bromwich Albion last season – and Villa fans have reacted on Twitter to the news.
Birmingham Live claim that Villa are the latest club to be linked with a move for the 28-year-old. The likes of Norwich City, Fulham and Leeds United have also been rumoured to be interested in Gayle.
Gayle was excellent on loan at West Brom last year, in a move that saw Salomon Rondon move to Newcastle in the opposite direction. Indeed, Gayle found the back of the net 24 times – including a play-off goal against Villa.

The Evening Standard claimed earlier in the week that Fulham had identified Gayle as a summer option, but that Newcastle want to rake in £20million for the ex-Crystal Palace striker.
Villa do have a options up front in the form of Tammy Abraham and Jonathan Kodjia. But it remains to be seen if they will keep Abraham, with Chelsea’s transfer ban perhaps making it unlikely that he will be sold.
He may even cost more than Gayle, but Villa fans are desperate to see their club avoid the striker with many of the belief that he is not good enough in the Premier League – and that he is more suited to the Championship.
