Aston Villa have announced on their official website that goalkeeper Jed Steer has extended his contract with the club.

The 26-year-old has apparently tied himself down to the club until 2023 after playing a vital part in the late season run of form that got them into the play-off spots and eventually ended up with that Wembley win over Derby.

Steer said: “It’s great to have extended my contract. I’ve been here since 2013 and staying here is something I’ve always wanted to do. To get promoted and then sign a new deal was the target and I’m thankful to have been able to do it.

“When I got told last August I could go out on loan I thought that was my Villa career probably over. To be sitting here now and about to embark on the Premier League with Aston Villa is something I couldn’t have imagined. I’m over the moon.”

Just as excited as Steer is to have extended his contract are the Villa fans who took to Twitter in response to the club’s official account posting the news.

They feel Steer deserves his new deal for his contribution to getting the club back into the big time and also for the dedication he has shown in turning his career around at Villa Park…
