Aston Villa supporters have praised club chief executive Christian Purslow following his recent comments on the proposed European Super League.
The Villa boardroom member took aim of the concept in a scathing interview with The Express and Star, calling the idea a ‘grotesque concept’, and that a European Super League defeats the sporting merit that makes football as big and enjoyable sport as it has become.
The Times reported on Sunday that six Premier League teams had agreed to join a 12-club European Super League which has been condemned by the likes of UEFA and the FA as reported by BBC Sport, and Purslow’s comments on the concept was well-praised on social media by Villa supporters, who agreed with what he had to say about the competition.
Here’s what Aston Villa supporters had to say about Purslow’s comments on the European Super League on Twitter…
Nailed it; pleased to have a well-rounded CEO that understands both business (ex-Private Equity) and the fundamentals principles of sport – but prioritises the latter

Villa have an outside chance of qualifying for Europe with eight games of the season left to play, with Dean Smith’s side eight points off sixth place with two games in hand over teams above them in the Premier League table.
