Aston Villa’s heavy recruitment this summer left several of their first-team players on the chopping block. One such player was Andre Green. After spending the first part of last season on loan at Portsmouth the wide man returned to Aston Villa in January to help them win promotion to the Premier League.
However, he found his chances of first-team football this season dissipate throughout the summer and was therefore loaned out to Championship side Preston North End.
The 21-year-old had to settle for a place on the bench in the first and second games of the new Championship campaign. However, he was handed his first start for Preston in the EFL Cup last night.
Green did not let this opportunity pass him by. He scored the opening goal of a 4-0 win over Bradford City with a controlled volley at the back-post.
It was a great goal from the player and his substitution after 72 minutes perhaps hinted at a chance to feature against Swansea City on Saturday.
Some Aston Villa fans were disappointed to see Green leave in the summer. However, plenty are hopeful this goal can springboard him to a successful campaign at Deepdale before returning to Villa Park an even better player next year.
Here is some of the best reaction to his goal-scoring antics…
