Aston Villa fans rave over Matty Targett performance in win over Arsenal

Aston Villa produced a stunning away performance to beat Arsenal 3-0 at The Emirates on Sunday evening as they continue their excellent start to the 2020-21 campaign – and Villa fans have raved about Matty Targett.

A first-half strike from Trezeguet and two second-half efforts from Ollie Watkins saw Villa cruise to victory – with John McGinn also having an effort ruled out by VAR before Trezeguet’s opener. Arsenal failed to cope with Villa.

It was Targett that created the first goal. Good work on the left-hand side saw the 25-year-old played in by the excellent Jack Grealish. His low cross was tapped in by Trezeguet at the back post.

The second came with less than 20 minutes left. A pinpoint long ball to Ross Barkley was volleyed across the face of the Arsenal six-yard box – and Watkins bravely nodded the ball into the back of the net to double Villa’s advantage.

Just three minutes later, Villa had their third. Grealish involved again, and it was his run and pass that set up Watkins – who coolly slotted his effort under Bernd Leno. Villa were superb throughout.

Targett has become one of the first names on the Villa teamsheet, playing every single minute this season in the Premier League. Many Villa fans applauded the Β£11.5million ace’s (Express & Star) performance.
