Tottenham Hotspur produced an assured performance to beat Aston Villa 2-0 away from home on Sunday night at Villa Park – but Villa supporters have raved about the performance of left-back Matty Targett.
Villa might have fancied their chances on Sunday after Jose Mourinho’s side suffered defeat twice in the space of a week – with the North Londoners losing to both rivals Arsenal and being knocked out of the Europa League.
Villa, though, have not been in the best of form themselves. Dean Smith’s side had picked up just two points from a possible nine – and they have now gone four games without a win, as Spurs earned a 2-0 win over the Midlands side.

A mistake from Emi Martinez got things rolling. The Argentine came out of his area and Spurs capitalised, with a well-worked move involving Harry Kane and Lucas Moura eventually seeing Carlos Vinicius tap home.
It was a brave call by Mourinho to partner Kane with Vinicius but it worked – scoring his first Premier League goal. Kane then won a penalty in the second half, somewhat controversially, and sent Martinez the wrong way.
A disappointing night for Villa but there was a couple of positives, as a Jack Grealish-less side struggled without their captain. One was the performance of £35,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender Targett, according to some on Twitter.
