Aston Villa fans praised Frederic Guilbert for his pre-season display

Aston Villa kicked off pre-season with a comfortable 3-0 win over American side Minnesota United – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter hailed their defender Frederic Guilbert.

Dean Smith’s side picked up a 3-0 victory and he named two completed different teams for each half.

Midfielder Jack Grealish netted during the first period, while Hendri Lansbury and Birkir Bjarnason scored in the second-half.

The Midlands giants have already been extremely active in the transfer window and it was a chance for fans to see some of their new players in action.

Guilbert has linked up with Villa for the first time this summer, albeit his transfer was completed in January and he remained with Caen for the rest of last season.

He is an attack-minded right-back that provided a brilliant assist with his cross for Lansbury’s goal and should be aiming to start the first game of the season.

The 24-year-old Frenchman has a tireless work-rate both up and down the pitch, which has already done enough to get supporters on his side.

A selection of supporters were pleased with what they saw from Guilbert, who was part of the second-half XI that scored twice and kept a clean sheet.

One fan even claimed he covered more ground than midfield teammate John McGinn, who was renowned for his energy and desire last season when promotion from the Championship was achieved.

Here are some Villa fans on Guilbert:
