It has been a crazy 12 months for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, and the Argentine’s story has taken another pleasant turn.
The 28-year-old shot-stopper was this week awarded Villa’s Player of the Season after joining the club from Arsenal in the summer transfer window. Martinez was the Gunners’ backup keeper last year, before injury to Bernd Leno forced the South American into Mikel Arteta’s starting XI.

Since then, Martinez won a summer move to Villa to became the club’s new starting goalkeeper. The shot-stopper has flourished into one of the top players in the position in the Premier League. The Argentine kept 15 clean sheets this season, the third-highest in the division.
And Aston Villa fans have showered Martinez with praise after the keeper claimed the Player of the Season award, with the keeper playing a large part in the club’s impressive season in the Premier League.
