It has been a crazy 12 months for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, and the Argentine’s story has taken another pleasant turn.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper was this week awarded Villa’s Player of the Season after joining the club from Arsenal in the summer transfer window. Martinez was the Gunners’ backup keeper last year, before injury to Bernd Leno forced the South American into Mikel Arteta’s starting XI.
