Aston Villa’s clash with Nottingham Forest last night was the best match of the Championship season so far, finishing in a scarcely believable 5-5 draw.
Aitor Karanka’s side went into the game having conceded only one goal in their last five matches, but the defensive solidity with which the Spaniard has become so synonymous went out the window at Villa Park.
Forest led three times on the night but Tammy Abraham was on something of a one-man mission to keep his side in contention with a stunning four goals, which takes in the first hat-trick of his senior career.

That makes it ten league goals for the season already for the Chelsea loanee, who has been transformed by the attacking brand of football preferred by new Villa manager Dean Smith.
There are of course concerns for the Villans at the back – no team with promotion aspirations should be conceding five on their own patch – but after a crazy night, perhaps it’s best to focus on the attacking positives.
Uppermost among them is Abraham and the Villa fans were keen to show their appreciation for the man who kept them in the game and who will be absolutely vital to their bid to return to the Premier League.
