Aston Villa drew 0-0 with Everton as both sides saw the 2020/21 campaign edge towards a stage of stalemate. Everton will still hold ambitions of European football, although, for Dean Smith’s men, a top-half finish would represent a strong season.
One man who was instrumental for Villa was John McGinn. The Scotland international has struggled to gain consistency this season but returned to form with an impressive display here.
It’s still remarkable to think that McGinn cost the Villans just £3.25 million from Hibernian in 2018. He helped the club to promotion from the Championship and assisted in their survival last season.
In total McGinn has played 107 games for Villa, scoring 12 goals and registering 19 assists. It’s often his energy that catches the eye, however, rather than his goal contributions.

Dean Smith will be delighted to have seen McGinn return to form against Everton and he’ll hope he can finish the season with a flourish now.
The 26-year-old has a wand of a left-foot and on his day he is a real asset to the football club.
Following his performance tonight, Villa fans raved about him on Twitter and they too were delighted to see him back in business.
Here is what they had to say about the £50,000-a-week star…
