Aston Villa fans hail Bjorn Engels performance against Everton

Aston Villa earned their first points of the Premier League season at home to Everton on Friday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out defender Bjorn Engels for his immense performance.

Dean Smith’s side had lost their opening two league fixtures since returning to the top-flight, but beat Everton at home 2-0 to give everyone a major boost.

The Midlands club went in front through Wesley Moraes in the first-half, who scored his first goal for the club and was a colossus leading the line with his physical presence.

He latched onto a pass from Jota behind the defence and calmly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Substitute Anwar El Ghazi netted a 95th minute goal to seal the three points and lift the team up to 11th in the table.

A selection of Villa supporters on social media singled out Engels for his individual display and feel he’s turning out to be a major bargain.

The 24-year-old joined in the summer for £9million (Sky Sports) from Stade Reims and he’s quickly settled in English football.

He’s a no-nonsense centre-back that has played every minute of the league so far and looked dependable next to teammate Tyrone Mings in the heart of defence.

A personal highlight of his performance was a goal-line clearance in the first-half to keep out Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
