Ahmed Elmohamady helped Egypt beat DR Congo on Wednesday in the Africa Cup of Nations – and some Aston Villa fans on Twitter raved about their player for his goal.

Egypt made it two wins out of two in the tournament by beating DR Congo 2-0 and netted twice in the first-half.

Elmohamady opened the scoring with a stunning individual goal after 25 minutes, as he manufactured room in a crowded penalty area to prod in a right-footed volley.

The 31-year-old defender is not renowned for his goalscoring ability, but he produced a fine piece of magic on the international stage.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah ensured three points with a trademark left-footed finish from outside of the box that highlights his quality right now.

The Liverpool attacker will be hoping to guide Egypt all the way in the Africa Cup of Nations and he’s arguably the standout player on the continent.

Elmohamady captains the Egypt team and he’s one of the key performers for his national side.

He has just enjoyed an excellent campaign with Villa by helping them earn promotion via the Championship play-off final, as they beat Derby County at Wembley.

The attack-minded right-back made 42 appearances across all competitions last season and weighed in with eight assists.

The speed machine can be a threat when he flies forward into attacks, but whether he’s got the defensive prowess to cope with a return to the Premier League is the bigger question.

Here are some Villa fans raving about Elmohamady for his latest display:
