Aston Villa fans fuming over who the club is set to offload now, ‘we will 100 percent regret this’

Aston Villa’s preparations for the 2025/26 campaign haven’t exactly been going to plan, to put it mildly.

On the final day of last season, Aston Villa controversially lost at Manchester United to miss out on a spot in the Champions League.

Then, in July, Villa were fined by UEFA for breaking the governing body’s football earnings and squad cost rules, with a ‘tough’ settlement agreement now in place.

The Villans haven’t exactly stood out on the transfer front either, with just Zepiqueno Redmond and Marco Bizot being signed this summer.

Now, Villa are reported to have struck a deal over one of their players which has left a number of fans completely unimpressed.

Aston Villa fans unhappy with terms of Enzo Barrenechea deal

Villa have agreed a deal with Benfica over the eventual sale of Enzo Barrenechea, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Villans are set to loan Barrenechea out, with an obligation to buy clause ‘under certain conditions from Aston Villa’.

The deal in place is for €15million, which works out at around £13million.

Benfica have made a name for themselves as a club that signs gems, turns them into stars and sells at a considerable profit.

This isn’t lost on Villa fans, who believe they’re relinquishing an asset with great potential at a low price.

One fan wrote on X: “So he could develop into a world beater and cost 15m…”

Another claimed that “Monchi is actually so embarrassing”, while another described it as a “Monchi disasterclass”.

The criticism kept coming, with one supporter writing: “Surely we could’ve offloaded Barkley to make room for this lad. Screams of no long-term thinking to me.”

Another said: “Emery is making a mistake here – this player is a very talented player and AVFC should hold onto him.”

Another fan said: “Clubs can sell players for 10s of millions, we loan players out or give them away for nothing – this is pathetic for a club of our stature.”

The detail which suggests Aston Villa stand to profit handsomely from Enzo Barrenechea deal

While it’s disappointing that Barrenechea’s Villa career is set to finish before it even began, a different report suggests the Villans aren’t merely getting rid of him for cheap.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the midfielder’s move to Benfica will see Villa retain a 30 per cent sell-on clause for a future transfer.

Therefore, even if Barrenechea goes for a hefty sum, Villa will be getting themselves a decent cut of that.
