'Done already', 'Shambles': Some Villa fans fume as Grealish is reportedly dropped from England XI
Aston Villa supporters are fuming as Jack Grealish will reportedly not start for England against Croatia.
The Athletic report that the Villa captain will start on the bench for England. Grealish started and impressed in warm-up games against Austria and Romania.
Moreover, Grealish has been one of Villa’s star players over the past two seasons and looked like a shoo-in to make Gareth Southgate’s England XI for their Euro 2020 opener against Croatia.
However, it appears that the winger will start the match on the bench. Indeed, Raheem Sterling taking his place in the XI. Tyrone Mings, however, will retain his spot in the starting line-up.
The overall reaction to the news has been negative, with fans from all clubs fuming that Grealish won’t be handed a start this afternoon.
And Villa fans, in particular, were mad on social media that their club captain will be dropped for England’s Euro 2020 opener.
Here’s what some fans had to say about Grealish missing out for England today on Twitter…
If it’s true that grealish isn’t starting after being the best player in pretty much every warm up game then I’m done already #eng— villa_views (@villanews11) June 13, 2021
As a Villa fan, I don't think Mings should be in the England squad. He's been dodgy all season. Konsa is a much better CB.— Lenny Partridge (@lennypartridge) June 13, 2021
But, as for not starting Grealish… That's just plain dumb on Southgate's part! #ENG #AVFC
So it’s Sterling and Foden to start for England.— Chris McKernan (@ChrisMckernan) June 13, 2021
Absolute shambles that is, we’re the only nation in world football that wouldn’t get Grealish and Foden in together. I’m not saying it as a Villa fan either, I’m saying it because Grealish will make us better. Joke #ThreeLions
Grealish starts or we riot #AVFC— Guesticles (@danny_guest) June 13, 2021
Right.— The Stands Of Villa Park (@TheStandsOfVP) June 13, 2021
Also we have 2 of the best left backs in the world and he's playing a rb at Lb. Southgate is the reason we won't go anywhere in this tournament https://t.co/LQj7A9duhs
Grealish will wear the no. 7 shirt for England this tournament, a sign beforehand that was seemingly a hint that he would start for Southgate early in the competition.
