Hype for Euro 2020 has well and truly begun as Gareth Southgate named his 33-man provisional squad for the competition.

Three Aston Villa players made the team, with Jack Grealish, Tyrone Mings and Ollie Watkins all getting the nod, whilst Ezri Konsa was not selected. And this angered some Villa supporters on social media.

The 23-year-old defender, who Dean Smith signed for £12m according to BBC Sport, has formed a solid partnership with Mings this season. The duo have kept 15 clean sheets in the Premier League this campaign.

Konsa’s form this year had many fans and pundits believing that the defender could have an outside chance of making Southgate’s England squad. However, the Villa rock was not even named in the provisional squad of 33, which will be cut to 26 next week.

And Villa supporters on social media were fuming about the decision. Some fans believed that Konsa deserved a spot in the England squad, with Southgate naming extra players in the team.

Here’s what some Villa fans had to say about Konsa’s omission from the squad on Twitter…

Konsa qualifies to play for Portugal, with the Athletic reporting in February that the 2016 Euro winners were monitoring the Villa centre-back.
