Aston Villa fans excited to club leading chase for Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka

Aston Villa are reportedly leading the chase to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are excited by the speculation.

According to the Daily Mail, Dean Smith’s squad are leading the race for the Slovakian ace this summer.

It is understood that the Midlands giants are ahead of Manchester United, Tottenham, Monaco and Porto in the pursuit of the £12million-rated ace.

The report explains that the 30-year-old has stalled over talks with Newcastle about a new deal.

Villa reportedly have been put off by a £25million price tag of Stoke City’s Jack Butland and saw a move for Burnley’s Tom Heaton knocked back, so are now setting their sights on the Newcastle colossus.

Dubravka has 15 clean sheets in 50 games since he moved to St James’ Park and been one of the most consistent performers in the top-flight during the last year.

The shot-stopper has a real presence in his box and is confident playing out from the back too.

He would be an upgrade on Jed Steer at Villa and a potential £12million swoop would be a bargain for someone in the peak of their powers.
