Aston Villa are reportedly one of five English clubs looking to sign Burnley defender Ben Gibson this summer with Sean Dyche willing to offload the centre-back – and Villa fans have reacted on Twitter with delight.

TeamTalk claim all three newly-promoted sides, in Villa, Sheffield United and Norwich City want to land the 26-year-old centre-back. Championship sides Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough also want Gibson.

The commanding defender joined Burnley last summer after 204 appearances with Boro, where he broke through the academy to captain the senior side. But following his £15million move, he struggled at Turf Moor.

Gibson suffered an injury-plagued season at Burnley, managing just five appearances throughout the entire 2018-19 campaign. He last featured in a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup at the start of the year.

Villa desperately need additions at the heart of their defence. Axel Tuanzebe and Tyrone Mings have returned to their parent clubs, while Tommy Elphick has joined Huddersfield, leaving Dean Smith with little option at centre-back.

Aston Villa fans reacted to the news that their side are in the running to sign Gibson this summer, with Burnley said to be keen to sell or loan him out. The majority of Villa fans think Gibson would be a good signing.
