Aston Villa are reportedly interested in Danny Drinkwater – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have given mixed responses to the speculation.
The English midfielder is currently out on loan at Burnley, but will return to his parent club Chelsea in January
Sky Sports reports that Burnley look unlikely to take up their option to re-sign Drinkwater on loan.
It is explained that Villa boss Dean Smith views the 29-year-old as a possible January target and feels he could even help cover their injured midfield star John McGinn.
The report adds that assistant manager John Terry may have a big role to play in trying to push a deal over the line, due to his close relationship with Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.
Drinkwater has only managed two senior appearances during his half a season loan at Burnley, where he’s struggled with injuries and not got much of a look-in recently.
The central midfielder has only made 23 appearances for Chelsea since a move to Stamford Bridge in 2017 and his career has gone downhill in the past couple of years.
Despite a lack of match fitness nowadays, he was once an integral part of a Leicester City team that won a Premier League title and also survived relegation from the top-flight the season before.
Villa find themselves inside the bottom three right now in the Premier League and it looks like they need January reinforcements to get them out of trouble.

A selection of Villa supporters on social media believe that Drinkwater could bring some valuable experience to the squad and is worth a punt on loan from Chelsea.
Meanwhile, others are not convinced by the midfielder’s lack of game time in recent years and want to stay clear of him.
