Aston Villa fans demand Orjan Nyland returns for Carabao Cup final

Aston Villa suffered a defeat away to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have claimed they want to see goalkeeper Orjan Nyland recalled next week.

The Midlands club have a massive fixture against Manchester City next weekend in the Carabao Cup final, but they go into it off the back of a disappointing league result.

Dean Smith’s side stay 17th in the league table after their 2-0 defeat to Southampton and are just a point above the relegation places.

Shane Long opened the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes, before Stuart Armstrong made sure of the result by tapping into an open net in stoppage time at St Mary’s.

They will need to try regain some confidence going into the cup final and it will be intriguing to see what side manager Smith goes with.

A selection of Villa supporters on social media stated after the game that they would like to see Nyland come back into the side.

Experienced goalkeeper Pepe Reina has been the numbed one option since his January arrival, but he conceded twice at the weekend against Southampton and didn’t cover himself in glory.

Nyland’s heroics in the two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final win over Leicester City booked the cub a spot in the final and there are many who want to see him back involved.

Here are some Villa fans on Nyland:
