Aston Villa were comfortably beaten 4-1 by fellow Midlands club Leicester City at Villa Park yesterday as Brendan Rodgers’ side continued their winning run.
It’s now a club-record eight in a row for the Foxes and after a promising opening spell, the hosts fell away and slipped to a heavy defeat.
Jack Grealish was the only player who looked capable of making things happen, scoring Villa’s goal right on half time and taking on the creative burden.
John McGinn was his midfield partner in crime in the engine room last season and at the start of this campaign, but the Scotland international is struggling now.
Some fans on Twitter felt that the midfielder is simply tired and needs a rest, having been an ever-present for club and country this season.
Both others speculated that he has started to believe his own hype after an impressive start to the season or that his game has been found out slightly at the higher level.
Dean Smith faces a big call over whether to rest him as he searches for the right balance in midfield, but any criticism of Villa’s recent run should take into account that they’ve played three top sides – two away from home – in the past week.
Had his head turned I reckon!

I agree. IMO Mcginn is fairly one dimensional and without Jack running rings around people it becomes evident. Buy a good winger, move Grealish inside and he’ll be back firing!

I don't get this knackered stuff? He's a well paid, ultra fit professional football player! Players going in to a World Cup in June could be tired at the end of a tough season run in. Come on!

Needs a rest bless him. Incredibly poor by his high standards.

He is believing all the hype about people saying how good he is .

Carrying an injury maybe

Playing too much in defence like Alli was for Spurs, Grealish wasted on wing too, both cause defensive midfielders not reliable and wingers inconsistent / not good enough either i.e. El Ghazi hits bar – key early moment UTV

He’s not playing in the same role as the start of the season, he’s playing a more deep position, compared to the start of the season more attacking mid.

Literally what I thought! Different player now…

Confidence. Picks the ball up, drives towards goal, then bottles the shot and misplaces a pass out wide. Needs an arm round the shoulder.

Too much football – perhaps getting head turned by big club interest?

McGinn has to be benched next game, woeful again today. #avfc
