Aston Villa fans criticise Douglas Luiz after Watford defeat

Aston Villa suffered a crushing 3-0 away defeat to Watford on Saturday afternoon  – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter slammed midfielder Douglas Luiz for his performance.

Dean Smith’s side hit a real low point in the Premier League season so far by being heavily beaten at Vicarage Road.

The Midlands giants remain 18th in the league table inside the relegation spots, while 19th-placed Watford climbed to within two points of them.

Watford captain Troy Deeney opened the scoring just before half-time, but Villa were given a way back into the contest when Adrian Mariappa was shown a red card in the 57th minute.

But the hosts continued to stay on top with just 10 men and Deeney added a second from the penalty spot after Luiz conceded a foul in the box.

Ismaila Sarr made sure of three points with the third goal for Watford, who are enjoying a resurgence under manager Nigel Pearson and are creeping up the table.

A selection of Villa supporters on social media were raging with Brazilian Luiz for his contribution at the weekend.

The 21-year-old central midfielder gifted Watford a penalty for his sloppy foul, as well as struggling to stamp his authority in the centre of the park.
