Aston Villa fans credit 23-year-old for performance in Newcastle draw

Aston Villa recorded a narrow 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on Friday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter singled out their defender Ezri Konsa as a real positive.

Despite the fact it was a game lacking real quality, there were two goals late on in a lively finish.

Villa did take the lead in the 86th minute through at St James’ Park.

Ollie Watkins’ header deflected in off defender Ciaran Clark for an own goal, which looked like it would earn the visitors three points in the Premier League.

Unfortunately, Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles headed in an equaliser in stoppage time.

Dean Smith’s Villa have certainly not been at their fluent best without captain Jack Grealish, something that was evident again tonight.

It means that the Midlands club are ninth in the league standings, and they need to start picking up some wins to reignite their push to finish in the European positions.

A selection of Villa fan on social media gave massive credit to Konsa’s performance though in the disappointing result.

The 23-year-old centre-back was a colossus at the back, seemingly winning every cross that was thrown into the penalty box alongside defensive partner Tyrone Mings.

There are plenty tipping him to earn a first senior England recall, and it’ll be interesting to see if he’s done enough to get into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

Here are some Villa fans discussing Konsa:
