Some Aston Villa fans calling for Steve Bruce to go after 4-1 defeat

Aston Villa had a day to forget yesterday, after being dealt a 4-1 thrashing by Sheffield United. It was a fair result after the Blades dominated the game and Aston Villa put in a rather inept performance.

For some Aston Villa fans, this was the last straw regarding manager Steve Bruce. The Villa boss has not had it easy at the club in recent times.

The club were struggling financially this summer. When a takeover happened, it looked like Bruce could have been replaced by Thierry Henry. The new owners stuck by Bruce but results have not been reflective of the talent in the Aston Villa squad.

The defeat to Sheffield United leaves the club on just nine points from the opening 18 points on offer. It also followed an exit from the League Cup at the hands of League One side Burton Albion.

This is not a knee-jerk reaction from Aston Villa fans. Many have been disappointed with Aston Villa’s performances under Bruce for some time.

His tactical decisions have certainly proved puzzling, especially when it comes to some odd substitutions. Transfers have also left Aston Villa fans puzzled. The decision to replace Jed Steer and Andre Green, sending the pair out on loan, was certainly a bizarre action from the manager.

Some fans simply feel, with the time he has had, the investment he has had and the talent in the squad, Aston Villa should not already be playing catch up in the league and out of the cup by the start of September.

Perhaps it is time for a change at the top for Aston Villa.
