Aston Villa fans blast one player from enthralling Leeds draw

Aston Villa fans will have come away from Elland Road with plenty of mixed emotions after a controversial 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Sunday afternoon – but some Villa supporters have blasted one of their side’s senior players.

A mass brawl, Anwar El Ghazi’s red card and Marcelo Bielsa ordering his side to allow Aston Villa to score were all reactions to Matuesz Klich scoring while Jonathan Kodjia lay injured in the centre circle.

Kodjia, 29, endured a difficult afternoon for the Midlands club. Coming up against two of the division’s best centre-backs in Leeds skipper Liam Cooper and Sweden international Pontus Jansson, it was always going to be tough.

Indeed, the former Bristol City goal machine struggled to find a yard on the ground or in the air against both defenders. However, Kodjia did have one glorious chance to give Villa the lead.

Latching on to the end of a cross, Kodjia had a chance from 12 yards. The ball sat up nicely for the Ivory Coast international to half volley towards goal, but the pressure of Luke Ayling saw Kodjia blast the ball into the stand.

He has only scored two goals since the turn of the year, with Tammy Abraham considered first choice. It remains to be seen if the latter will be around for the play-offs, but Villa fans criticised Kodjia on Twitter for his display.
