Aston Villa fans believe 'brilliant' Konsa has a case for right-back role next season
It was a result and a performance that Aston Villa needed after a dreadful run of form in the Premier League.
Dean Smith’s side claimed a 2-1 win over Tottenham in their first league game with fans back at stadiums after going almost the entire season without spectators, and Villa put on a dazzling performance, with Jack Grealish and Ollie Watkins both returning to the starting XI to put Spurs to the sword.
The English international’s impressed in north London, yet another countryman who was in fine form was Ezri Konsa, who started the game in the right-back position with Matty Cash out on the injury table. And the former Brentford defender put in a solid shift, with the Athetlic’s Villa writer Gregg Evans labelling the 23-year-old as ‘a force’ at the back against Spurs.
And Villa supporters agreed with the statement, with fans on social media eager to see Konsa play in the position next season should Cash be out injured once again.
Here’s what some supporters had to say about Konsa playing at right-back on Twitter following last night’s win over Spurs…
Konsa was good at right back, but that’s cos Konsa is a brilliant player. A genuine top draw defensive midfielder will make us miles better. Marv did well after error but we need players who can retain the ball, handle possession under pressure we give the ball away far to much

Konsa can do a job at RB as he is so good but he has to play at CB. Best CB we have had since Laursen

Perhaps, certainly for Sunday. Konsa at RB gives #avfc the defensive solidity Elmo lacks; Nakamba at DM lets McGinn press opponents and get forward. Jack at CM hugely improves our control and ball retention; a new CDM and top-class winger incoming could be our template for 21-22.

I agree that Konsa at RB could be a great shout in these sorts of games, would allow the RW to stay a little further up the pitch and effect the opposition RB whilst ensuring our own defensive solidity. Think we'd need another quality CB to make this a more viable option though.

With the clear quality Konsa can offer at RB, don’t expect to see a RB arrive in the summer. A CB with a right foot absolutely, but I feel Cash, Guilbert and Konsa (if needed) is ample. Young(ish) CB with huge potential incoming I expect…#avfc

Konsa at RB was so much better than Elmo. #avfc

Konsa has formed a solid partnership with Tyrone Mings this season, with the duo keeping 15 clean sheets in the Premier League.
