‘Good chance’: Aston Villa fans react to drawing Crewe in the EFL Cup

Aston Villa kicked off their 2019/20 defeat with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, although the performance saw plenty of positives.

The Villans are back in the Premier League for the first time in three years after winning promotion via the Championship play-offs.

Boss Dean Smith has been busy assembling a new-look squad during the summer, adding no fewer than 12 new players.

Last night saw the second round of the EFL Cup drawn. With a big squad, Villa might look to play a completely different team in the competition in order to concentrate on Premier League endeavours.

Smith must take his side to Crewe Alexandra of League Two. The tie will be played at Gresty Road during the week commencing 26th August.

Dave Artell’s team defeated Championship side Middlesbrough on penalties in the first round and will fancy another upset against the top-flight new boys.

It will probably be a second-string side that faces Crewe but Villa must be on their guard to avoid this potential banana skin.

Following the draw we looked at what Villa fans were saying about the forthcoming contest at the League Two outfit:
